Heading out for a cool-weather camping trip? Whether you’re new to RVing or are a seasoned traveler, it can be easy to overlook some of the essentials when heading out for cool-weather camping. Take a look at some of our RV tips below on what to pack and how to prepare!
First Things First
If you’re overdue on some RV service, now’s the time to schedule it. There’s never a convenient time to have roadside trouble, but cold weather is typically far more uncomfortable and potentially dangerous. We can give your new or used RV the TLC it deserves and check every single thing right down to the window seals and tire pressure. Head out with the peace of mind you deserve!
Extra Bedding and Linens
Plan on packing extra linens and bedding! You may also want to invest in a good entry mat to place at all entry/exit doors on your RV so that family members don’t track in mud or moisture. Having extra blankets on hand – whether on the beds or as throw blankets on the sofa around the fireplace – will make everything feel nice and cozy.
Plan Easy (and Warm!) Meals
Keep meal plans easy and minimal. A few ingredients in one pot can yield a surprisingly hearty meal and keep cleanup to a minimum. Oatmeal and scrambled eggs are routine breakfasts for my kids during cold weather camping, and nothing beats a hearty beef stew for dinner.
Make a Contingency Plan
Cold weather tends to be more unpredictable, so if the rain or sleet sets in and just won’t let up, have a Plan B ready to go. Whisk up some instant apple cider or make no-bake peanut butter chocolate cookies – and gather around the fireplace to watch a favorite family movie. Keep a NOAA weather radio handy so you can stay up to date on any weather changes. You can’t control the weather, but if you can plan ahead and plan around it, it loses its power to disappoint.
With some forethought, RV service, and a good meal plan, you can camp comfortably in any weather. Contact us today! We’d love to get your RV ready for the road!
